My 5 Star Review
Two years after an accident claims the life of her husband, a stranger shows up on her door step and Claire's heart skips a beat. Is it possible to find love twice in a lifetime or will Claire find that being happy once was all she will ever need?!!
You will have to find out the answer yourself!!
This book was great, I love the story line and the characters. I found a few places where the story didn't flow as well as the rest of the book but it wasn't a big enough issue to take stars away. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more by Ms. Stalter!
Book Excerpts
Excerpt #1
He came walking across the field in his tight blue jeans, dark brown boots, beige plaid shirt, and dark brown cowboy hat. He was walking my unruly colt by a lead rope with ease. The colt had broken the fence and ran off. He found him. How he got the horse calmed down was a mystery to me. I could not get that horse to walk on a lead rope. He reached my door. I stepped out from behindthe screen door.
"Ma'am, I believe he is yours," he said with a slight southern drawl.
"Yes, he is. Thank you for bringing him back," I said, taking all of him in. He had ice blue eyes,
a five o'clock shadow, and broad shoulders. His tight shirt showed off his muscular arms and tight torso. "How did you know he was mine?"
"I pass by your house sometimes in morning on the way to the Everett farm," he said. "I work there when they need an extra hand."
"Thank you for bringing him back. Can you please put him in the paddock with the other horses?"
"Sure can," he replied. "Do you need help fixing the fence?"
"Thank you, I would really appreciate it."
"Be happy to help. If you don't mind, I'd like to take a look around the farm and help you out in anyway I can. It does not seem that you have much help around here," he said, as he looked me up and down.
I was wearing my blue jeans and white t-shirt. My long, chestnut brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
"Unfortunately, I do not. I had a farm hand, but he got married recently and they moved out west. I don't have enough money to hire someone else."
Excerpt #2
“What am I going to do with you, Josh?”
“I can think of a few things.”
“I can’t believe you just said that,” I said, hiding my face in a dishtowel. It was as if he could read my mind. He laughed. He walked over and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.
“What can I help you with?” he asked as he hugged me.
“You can take the pitcher of tea outside with some glasses,” I said hugging him back. I did not want to let go.
“Okay,” he said, slightly pulling away. He leaned in to kiss me. Backing me up against the counter, he kissed me hard. I let out a slight moan. This made him smile a little. He kissed me deeper and harder. He went to pull away. I pulled him back in. I returned his kiss, this time making him moan. He picked me up and sat me on the counter, continuing to kiss me. He kissed my neck, working his way down to my chest. I stopped him.
“We can’t do this right now,” I said. The panic was starting to kick in.
“Was it something I did?”
“No, it is definitely not you. It’s me.”
“I’m sorry. I will try to restrain myself.”
“It’s okay. I just keep thinking I am some how cheating on my husband.”
“But,” he said.
“I know, I know he is dead. Alison said the same thing the other night. I want to, believe me I want to, but I think we need to slow it down some.”
“I can go as slow as you like,” he said with a crooked smile.
