He didn’t commit suicide but who’s going to believe her...
Frustrated at being fired from her latest job and overwhelmed by her consolatory family, Sam decides to move to the family’s cabin at the lake. A place she hasn’t been since her dad committed suicide there, twenty years before. Or did he? Snooping is something she’s good at but someone seems to be taking offense to her looking too closely at what has been happening at the lake. What she discovers is shocking. Now she must uncover what’s real and what’s not. All that she learned growing up, may be false.
Keegan, who has recently moved to the area to finish his latest book, is also trying to find out if his grandfather, who’d passed away ten years before, died of natural causes or was murdered? The descendants of the four families, who own the land around the lagoon, are dying off.
Since Sam and Keegan are the only ones questioning the deaths, they find themselves working together to seek the truth. Are people being murdered? Who would benefit from their deaths? Why would there be barricades and armed guards at the north end of the lake? To stay alive, Sam and Keegan must find the answers and convince others, before more people are killed... including them.

Dammit Dad, this is all your fault.
That stopped her in her tracks. She closed her eyes as she pinched the bridge of her nose. Oh, God. She didn’t even want to think about what that meant. Or where that had come from. She hadn't thought about him in a long time... tried not to think about him.
She grabbed her cell phone, her car keys and her wallet from the kitchen drawer then walked out of her apartment before it closed in on her. Heading down the hallway to the back stairs, she quickly texted Cathy.
‘hey girl, drinks at maybelle’s?’
Her watch told her friend didn’t get off work for another three hours and fifteen minutes.
‘can’t working late. tomorrow have a date. but saturday 5:30 maybelle’s. bbe.’
Sam smiled at their made up text - bbe - beautifulist besty ever. It didn’t really mean much to anyone else but it had lifted Sam’s spirits more than once.
‘bbe. tx.’
“Shit!” Her mother’s voice ran through her head telling her to watch her language, at the same moment she went flying around the corner of the stairs and smacked into someone coming up. Her body spun sideways, her back slamming into the railing that she desperately grabbed for as she stumbled down a step. Mouth open she looked at the debris of papers now spanning ten stairs.
“Jesus. Can’t you watch where you’re going!”
“My mother would give you heck for that.” She looked into a pair of gorgeous blue eyes that probably looked better when they weren’t glaring at her. Clapping her hand over her mouth before she said something else stupid, she shrugged, made an apologetic face and then raced down the rest of the steps.
“Hey, I could use your help. Hey!”
His plea reached her just as she was shooting out the exit door. The right thing would have been for her to go back and give him a hand, or so her mother would have told her. But she couldn’t. Even with her mom’s guilt hanging over her, she kept going. It had been tempting to turn around and tell him about her crappy day just so he’d know his flying papers were pretty minor but she already felt boxed in. She had to get out. Her twelve-year-old Grand Am was sitting in the middle of the parking lot. The heat from inside hit her like a furnace as she opened the door and slid in. The steering wheel was almost too hot to hold onto as she started her car. The electric windows whined in protest as they were lowered. It didn’t do anything to dispel the heat. Sweat instantly pooled under her arms, across her forehead and her top lip. Fanning herself with a magazine she’d left on the passenger seat, she turned on the air conditioner. It spit out lukewarm air with a cough. Deciding she needed a pick-me-up, she smiled as she thought of the perfect person for that. She picked up her phone and dialed.
